Some of our 2013 CROP Walkers
Did you know that the CROP Walk is the original charitable walking event in the U.S.? You can end hunger locally and abroad by walking with us on Sunday, October 12th. We’ll gather at 1 PM at Brookside Park with walkers from many other faith communities in Ames, then depart for a 5K walk around campus and north Ames at 1:30 PM. Refreshments are provided along the way and at the end of the walk.
Walkers commit to finding sponsors, but there is no minimum amount one must raise. You can collect cash or check donations, or you can “go digital” and encourage your friends to donate electronically. The funds support Church World Service, which is passionate about ensuring sustainable access to proper, nutritious food, supporting more than 2,200 local hunger-fighting groups across the U.S. Also, 25 percent of the money raised stays in the Ames area to support food projects.
Walk? Donate? Here’s how…
Collegiate/Wesley has been somewhat under-represented with walkers in recent years, so let’s make this the year we make a strong showing! Here’s how to become a walker (do one or both):
- Pick up a donor packet from the church office, Rev. Jim Shirbroun, Tim Gossett, Amanda Heeren, or Frank Amos.
- Register online to be on our “Web Walkers” team, The Wesley Walkers. (Click the Join Team button.)
If you’re unable to walk but would like to donate, you can sponsor one of our walkers (see below) or you can donate to our whole team electronically by clicking the Donate Now button. If you’d like to walk but can’t do so on October 12th, just register and choose another date to do a 5K walk on your own!
